The Number 69

I had an appointment on yesterday and was given a number card to secure my place to be called upon. The number I was given was 69. I began to think, what does the number 69 mean. The number 69 is a special number, and no it has nothing to do with a sexual position. There is something spiritually significant about this number, the number 69. I will break it down in simple terms to show what 69 stands for.

The number 6 The number six stands for work, the creation of man, and incompleteness.

  • In Genesis 1:27 God created man in His own image. From verse 24-31 God made not only man, but He created the living creatures of His kind, catlle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth of His kind. All of this was WORK, and concluded the creation of the heavens and the earth. On the seventh day, God rested.
  • In Nubers 35:6 The Levites are given 6 cities of REFUGE, for safety, when danger was present in life; symbolizes HOPE; Also symbolizes GATHERING or RECEIVING Here persons of distress gathered or betook themselves; and here they were received, retained, protected, and sheltered This asylum was made for the manslayer, one who had killed a man ignorantly or unawares, and without design, NOT for one who killed a man purposefully, presumptously, or through enmity or malice.
  •  In Exodus 16:4-7 The Lord rained down bread from heaven (manna) for the Israelites and on the 6th day they were to GATHER it in In Exodus 16:22 the Isrealites gathered twice as much bread, so as the have enough to eat on the Sabbath (seventh) day, while they rested.

The number 9 The number nine stands for Blessings

  • There are nine fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
    • love
    • joy
    • peace
    • patience
    • kindness
    • goodness
    • faithfulness
    • gentleness
    • self-control
  • Jesus Christ died on the ninth hour of the day (which corresonds to 3pm), in order for us to have the gift of salvation
  • Divine Completedness, as the ninth hour when Jesus Christ gave up the ghost, the Father's will was made complete (Mark 15:34-37; John 19:28-30)

The number 6 and 9 used together

  • In Leviticus 25:17-25 The Lord tells His people that they are to fear Him and keep His judgements, and if so, they will dwell in the land in safety, where there is REFUGE. He tells them that he will command His blessing upon them in the SIXTH year and it shall bring forth fruit for three years. Then they are to sow on the eight year and eat the fruit until the NINTH year. In the NINTH year, the NEW FRUIT were to come in.
  •  In Haggai 1:15 it says, "In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king." NOTE: In the Hebrew calander, the SIXTH month is Elul, which is August thru to September on our calander, so this was speaking of August 20th
    • The previous verses speak of how the Israelites had struggles to rebuilt the temple which had been destroyed when the Babylonians had invaded their towns and country, they were exiled to other countries, and some transported to Babylon. When Cyrus the Persian entered Baylon almost 50 years later, he encouraged the exiles to return home and supported the rebuilding of their temples, as he wanted their gods (the Almighty God) on his side.
    • Haggai, the prophet and Zachariah, another prophet, felt that it was their responsibility under God to arouse the restores exiles to what was a neccessity, the rebuilding of the temples.
    •  In this time, the returned Israelite exiles had a hard time upon their coming home. Their neighbors were not pleased to see them return, as they appeared to be religiously exclusive (Ezra 4:2,3) so they were unwelcoming. The returned exiles also has a series of bad harvests. This took a toll on the exiles and their confidence was fading.
    •  Because the exiles, upon their return home had faced such difficulties, they were listless and apathetic. God used the prophet to give them something to aim for. He was seeking to get them refocused on the future, the future that He had promised them if they would only be faithful to Him. At this point the Israelites had lost the vision and Haggai was giving it back.
    •  Haggai tells them to consider what has been their experience the last few years. They had sown much seed, but it has brough little reward, they have eaten but never had enough, wine was sparse with not enough to satisfy, water was short and not easily available, their threadbare clothing was insufficient to keep them warm, and anu wages that they earned disappeared as quickly as if they had put it in a bag full of holes. Things has been HORRIBLE for these men.
    • The Lord shows them that their plight was due to the fact that they had neglected Him, their God and His house.
    •  God reassured them that if they obeyed Him and feared Him, He would be with them The people took heed to the message and began the WORK on rebuilding the temple on the SIXTH month, that is August, the 2oth day.
  • In Haggai 2:10 it says, "In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,"... Note: The NINTH month on the Hebrew calendar Kislev, which is November through to December on our calender.
    • In the previous versus, the Lord is saying look at this house, the temple, it looks like nothing has yet to be accomplished. Even so, He assured them once more that He was with them, saying , "I AM WITH YOU". God says that His spirit is yet with them and HE will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land, and even the nations, to fill their house with glory.
    • Then end of the chapter the prophet Haggai speaks to the people a Word from God,questioning them and urging them for the people to consider their ways, that they be clean and pure, and if so, they would surely be blessed by God.
    • God says, in the last three versus that HE will shake uthe heavens and the earth, overthrow the throne of kingdoms, destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathens, overthrow their chariots and those who ride in them, their horses and riders will also be thrown down, as well everyone by the sword of his brother(as happens during a battle). NOTE: This message is prophetic not only to the exiles Israelites, but the Gods people until the coming of the Messiah after the tribulation period, with the shaking of the heavens and earth spoken of in Revelation.
    • The Lord says He will take His servant Zerubbabel, through His seed, and make him a signet ring, because He is chosen of the Lord.
  • Thus in these two chapters, the 6 and the 9 together represent, travail and incompleteness with a promise to bless, for God Himself to bless, It also represents redemption.

  • The number 6 and 9 is mentioned together again in Matthew 27:45, as the account of Jesus was nearing the end of His crucifixtion and about to give up the ghost. In the SIXTH hour the skies were darkened, and in the ninth hour Jesus cried out, saying, "Eli Eli, lama sabachthani.", which means, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
  • Thus this account also signifies REDEMPTION as the Jesus Christ's crucifixtion was our reconciliation back to God.

  •  Psalms 69
    • In this Psalm, King David is pleasing for deliverance from His enemies. Here, like the exiled Israelites on their return home, was in dire straits. He had numerous enemies. David is calling for the Lord to deliver him from His enemies, He is calling for the Lord to be His refuge. He is also calling on the Lord to do justice or divine punishment upon his adversaries who sought him without a cause and caused him much distress. In his troubles, King David became the object of constant talk and ridicule, even the elders talked about him, the drunkardas taunted him.
    • King David was listless and broken hearted from the humiliation and hardships he was facing, aggrivated by his enemies.. In verse 18, he asks the Lord to redeem his soul. He desperately needs REDEMPTION from the Lord (just as the Israelites needed so badly in Leviticus and Haggai).
    •  In the later verses, King David petitions that God will send salvation and exalt him on high, bringing him out of his misery. He promises to praise and magnify the name of the Lord with thanksgiving, therefore the humble shall see it and be glad.
    • King David calls for all to praise God, reassuring that God will save Zion , and will build the cities of Judah, and have it in possession, the the Lord's seed shall inherit it and all that Love the Lord shall dwell therein (as the Lord promised in Haggai).
In all this, we get from the number six, incompletedness and work, while nine is a promised blessing that shall be done by God. The number 69 means the negativity is ending and the Lord is about to perfect the work of His people, making good on His promise, as the number 70 is perfect spiritual order. Also, if you add 6+9, you get 15. The New year to come is 2015! The 6 and the 9 together represent safety, refuge, redemption, and newness. Get ready for the Lord to make your waste places and negative situations come to an end as He reestablishes your NEW house, New life, and REDEEMS you. PRAISE GOD!
